The Awards
Following the success of previous years Adult Learners’
Week awards we are once again seeking nominations for Adult Learners’
Week Local Awards 2009. Last year’s event was uplifting, well
received and extremely important for learners, their tutors and
sponsors. This year we want these awards, again, to be a time of
celebration and recognition for individual learners and for projects
that have contributed to the learning agenda.
This year we are working in partnership with The Big Skill Awards
2009. The Big Skill Awards recognise and reward people in the East
of England who have improved their own life and lives of others
through learning. The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) want more
people of all ages and backgrounds to participate in learning, develop
new skills and be given every opportunity to fulfil their potential.
In Bedfordshire and Luton there are twelve categories to choose
from and entries must show how the nominated person has excelled
and/or overcome challenges to acquire new skills and how learning
has had a positive impact on that person or other people.
Award winners and those who nominate them will be invited to attend
the Award Ceremony which will be compered by BBC presenters and
supported by Ray Stubbs, BBC Sports Presenter. Each winner will
receive an award and a £150 of experience gift vouchers. The
Award Ceremony will be held on Tuesday 9th June 2009, in Harpur
Square, Bedford during the early evening. The Awards Ceremony will
be part of a whole day of events being held in the Harpur Square
to promote learning in Bedfordshire and Luton. Local schools, colleges
and training providers will showcase various opportunities available
and people will be encouraged to try their hand at learning a new
skill.
